Charlie and Thomas

My dad and I were recently talking and he was telling me about this book he just read. It talks about how we should always try to strengthen our weaknesses, but we should really focus on strengthening our strengths. And the first step to do that is to figure out what our strengths are.

Lately, Charlie has been very into his Thomas back pack. It goes EVERYWHERE with us. But it doesn't go empty.... ever. Before we leave the house to do anything (errands, the park, the beach, whatever) Charlie fills it with clothes. All kinds of clothes...several pairs of underwear, pajamas, sweaters, short sleeve shirts, long sleeve shirts, gloves, shorts, pants, and most importantly, sunglasses.

I thought it was strange until the other day when we were at the beach. It was one of those gorgeous southern california days. But then in typical San Francisco fashion, in a matter of minutes, it turned foggy and cold. Good thing Charlie brought his wool sweater, mittens and socks! He is prepared for anything.

Yesterday, while we were getting ready to go to Lisa's, Charlie was trying to shove his Diego slippers into the bag. So I asked him, why are you bringing those? It's going to be hot! He looked at me very seriously and said, "Just in case, mom." Fair enough.

And since being prepared is obviously something Charlie is good at and enjoys doing, I'm building on his strength and making him our Family Emergency Preparedness Specialist.
